In the spirit of making incremental improvements to D-Lib Magazine, this month we have added a new monthly feature and launched a new search facility. The new feature being introduced in this issue is a "Contributing Authors" page. The community of digital library researchers and developers is growing, and the days are gone when the number of those engaged in digital library research was so small that everyone knew each other by name, if not by sight. By clicking on an authors name in the byline of an article, you will be linked to a brief biographical note about that author, and a photograph of the author will accompany the note when one is available. A link back to the article is provided with each listing, so that you will be able to return to the article without having to scroll to the top or bottom of the page when you have finished reading the author information. We are also introducing a new search capability with this issue of D-Lib Magazine. Our goal was to improve ease of use as well as add functionality to the existing facility, which has been in place since ancient times, also known as 1997. To this end, the new approach allows Boolean searching as an option and displays search results along with brief summaries showing the context in which the search term(s) were found. Technical details are available from the link at the bottom of the new search page. If you have a chance to take it for a 'test drive', please let us know if it meets with your approval. And as always, we invite your comments and suggestions about any of the magazines features or content. Bonita Wilson Copyright© 2001 Corporation for National Research Initiatives |
