University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign DeLIver contains the full-text of articles in SGML format from engineering, physics and computer science journals published from 1995 to the present. Testbed staff have developed software to create and index a rich metadata field for each full-text record, allowing short entry display, forward and backward links, and links to abstract and indexing service databases. For a current list of the journals covered by DeLIver, investigate: http://dli.grainger.uiuc.edu/journals/ Number of items, format and total sizeThe DeLIver testbed receives articles directly from publishers in SGML format. The plan is to migrate the SGML database to a well-formed XML format. The metadata will be converted to an RDF format, to provide compatibility with the Dublin Core standard and as a model for extending the Dublin Core to include additional linking features. These articles include the text and all figures, tables, images, and mathematical equations. As of January 1999, we have approximately 50,000 articles from the American Institute of Physics (AIP), the American Physical Society (APS), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Computer Society (IEEE CS), and the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE). We are adding about 2,000 articles per month to the system. The testbed is comprised of approximately 50 gigabytes of data. Restrictions on accessThe materials in DeLIver are licensed from the journal publishers. For this reason, all users require authorization. DeLIver is currently available to UIUC faculty, students, and staff, and also DLI (Digital Libraries Initiative) publishing partners, and a number of designated researchers.
